G’day and welcome to episode 107 of the Music Business Facts podcast. I’m Rodney Holder, I played in and managed a metal band called Alchemist for over 20 years, I was also the co-owner, producer and promoter of Australia’s largest and longest running metal festival, and I’ve been a music business lecturer for the last eighteen years.
My entire mission with this show is to speak to as many music industry experts as I can so that I can teach you about how the music business works.
My guest today is Tony Boden.
Tony is a UK booking agent, promoter and head of European touring at ArteryGlobal.com – a company who look after an enormous roster of artists from all over the globe.
Recently I was able to sit down and have a one on one with Tony about his experiences, thoughts and opinions on the music business. And it was a great conversation.
In this episode we talk about being a booking agent, what they do, how to become one, being a concert promoter and all of the risks you face as a promoter – after all concert promoters are the ‘gamblers’ of the music business.
We talk about the importance of desire. How this music industry, regardless of what capacity you’re entering it, requires absolute dedication, work ethic and self belief.
Tony also gives me a great insight into how he got started in the business and that’s a really inspiring chat, he talks about artist engagement with fans and the industry and how to do that properly, we talk about formats for press kits and a ton of other really cool industry related stuff.
Tony’s doing some great things in the music industry and I hope you’ll agree that this is yet another interesting and informative episode of Music Business Facts.
